Why Poland?

Poland is one among the largest and most populous countries in Europe – The ninth largest in Europe by area, and sixth in the European Union (EU) by population. With a history dating back for over a thousand years, Poland’s cultural heritage is incredibly rich. This includes its longstanding traditions in the higher education sector, with the first university in Poland founded in the 14th century. Today, Poland is becoming an increasingly popular study destination, with more than 57,000 international students choosing to study there!

For many of those who choose to study in Poland, the country’s appeal is augmented by its relatively low living costs, which remain below those of most EU members. University fees are likewise relatively affordable, typically no more than US$4,500 per year.

Studying in Poland is cheaper than doing so in other parts of Europe. Tuition fees start from less than 1500 EUR per year and rarely go higher than 3000 EUR. Compared to the average fees of private universities in France, Germany, the UK or Scandinavia, this might be a big saving at the start of your studies. For example, according to studyineurope.eu, Northern European countries ask students to pay approximately 10 000 EUR per year while in France tuition fees range from 2000 to 7000 EUR.

Higher Studies in Poland

Poland has more than 450 HEIs (Higher Education institutions). The best three of them are widely recognized as regional academic centers. There are also highly specialized universities which enable the formation of outstanding experts in a wide spectrum of fields. The professional graduation period is usually 3-4 years and master’s studies 5-6 years. The postgraduate master’s studies are of usually 2-2.5 years. Institutions of higher education run full-time courses, extramural courses, evening courses and extern courses. The full-time mode is the basic system of studies.

There are two types of higher education institutions in Poland:
  • University-type HEIs that offer studies in the fields of humanities, sciences, medical sciences, economics, pedagogy, the arts, and military studies.
  • Professional HEIs which educate students in specific professional areas and prepare them for practicing a profession.

Scholarships

International students who wish to study in Poland and want to avoid costs of education can apply for various scholarships which either exempt them from paying a tuition fee or serve as a financial support in covering their living expenses. Polish Government Scholarships are awarded to young researchers and students on the basis of mutual agreements between countries as well as other organizations to encourage them to pursue their higher studies.
